a sleepy morning

it was early in the morning

i could have slept longer,

but a sunrise in a new place?

couldn't pass that up.

so i rose and rubbed my eyes

looking out to meet the morning

the sky was lit and burning

and i couldn't help but laugh

and grab my pen and paper and bible

i wrote a poem,

short and not quite sweet

(probably quite horrible)

my best friend looked at me 

with her sleepy eyes and smiled

"is it beautiful?" she asked.

i knew it was about the sunrise.

i nodded.

it most definitely was.

she fell back asleep.

and the mountains laughed with me

at the girl who only needed a word of confirmation

that the sky was beautiful

so she could sleep.

and the glory of the Lord made the morning glow.
