Monday Madness: S1 P4

I was relieved when I saw the safe-house. No one was following us, either. I never was good at saying no to people. Especially when they cried. Why did she have to cry? I sighed. But there was no taking it back. At least she stopped being upset... for the most part. She looked kind of crazy to me; with her hair messed up from the ride and a tear stain on her face. Not to mention a bruise or two.

"Stay here," Ordered Carl, hopping out after June. "And watch her."

"Yeah, yeah," I muttered. I stared at Keilah. It was quiet. "Please, don't try to get away."

She glared at me, and opened her mouth to speak, but closed it again.

"We're not kidnapping you," I spoke. I hated it when people were mad at me. "We're just -- we're just... I can't tell you. But you'll find out."

"Obviously you aren't kidnapping me by the way I am tied up and stuck in the back of this car." She rolled her eyes. Suddenly, her eyes were filled with tears. "The duct tape hurts. Just cut it off and I won't run, yeah?"

"I'm not dumb," I crossed my arms. "You kicked me. In. The. Face."

A look of amusement passed over her face and her facade disappeared.

The door opened and Keilah was dragged out. Some agents were around her, weary and watching. I opened the door and also exited. Finally. After all that work, I'm hungry. I heard Keilah speaking to the agents. She said something about letting her walk on her own and something about duct tape. She never gave up, did she?

We entered the safe-house. It was clean and smelled like air fresheners and pie. There were couches scattered around and a TV hung on one wall. I saw Gabi, an old lady with a million pieces of sass in her bones, in the kitchen. I was heading over there when I heard my name.

"We got work to do, Jon. You weren't thinking of taking a break, were you?"

"No," I looked longingly at the kitchen. The pie was calling my name. "Of course not."

I followed Carl and the other agents to the interrogation room. We walked down a hall, down some stairs, and then into another hall. I saw my reflection in the window of one of the offices. My black hair was sticking up, but other than that, I looked alright. Except for the bruise on my jaw. I slicked my hair down.

Girls like bruises, right? I probably look so courageous and awesome.

"You did okay on the job today," Carl slowed down to walk beside me. "But you need to work on it. I can't keep you in here forever, kid. You need to step up your game."

"I know. I'm trying."

"Trying isn't good enough. You need to be or else you'll get kicked out."

I sighed. I really hoped this mission with Keilah went well. If she escaped on my watch, then I'd definitely be out of the business. I looked ahead at Keilah. She had convinced the agents to take the duct tape off and she was walking on her own two feet. This would be hard. If only being an agent was as easy as I thought it would be.

  8. “"Yeah, yeah," I muttered. I stared at Keilah. It was quiet. "Please, don't try to get away." She glared at me, and opened her mouth to speak, but closed it again.” < CAN I TAKE THIS MOMENT TO SAY HOW MUCH I LOVE JON? Yes, I just did. Moment = taken. Mwah. “"I'm not dumb," I crossed my arms. "You kicked me. In. The. Face."” AJDNSAJKDAKNJAS. Also let me just say that you write a guy’s perspective VERY VERY well. I’m been seriously underwhelmed with most girls’ writing of guys’ POVs, so yes, this is impressive and so refreshing!!! <3 I love.
